Tropical Storm Updates:
No Current Activity in the Atlantic - As of 8/1/2019
Past Disturbances:

Sub tropical storm Andrea was off the coast of the Atlantic, May 20th; downgraded to a subtropical depression May 21st and disappated by 5pm the same day.

Hurricane Barry developed July 11th and made landfall in Louisiana July 13th. 130,000 State residents lost power and flood damage of 1.2 inches to 8 inches affected homes in Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi. The hurricane downgraded to a tropical depression as it traveled north the following day.
Flood Insurance is important for today and especially hurricane season. It its likely to have afternoon thunderstorms for the next two weeks. The rain accumulates which can turn into a flood. According to Ready.Gov a Flood is a temporary overflow of water onto land that is normally dry. Make sure your property is covered for flood insurance before another pop up storm rises or if a hurricane creates storm surge. Click HERE to watch a video on storm surge.
Flood Tips:
1. KNOW YOUR ZONE: AE and coastal zones are at a higher risk to flooding Vs. Zone X. This zone is not required to have flood insurance, properties are considered a Preferred Risk Policy (PRP), and are at a lower annual premium price.

2. BUY AT LOAN CLOSING: When an individual person is closing on a new house or refinancing, buy flood insurance for the closing date, otherwise, there is a standard 30-day wait period.

3. ACCORDING TO FEMA, the damage of one inch of water can cost more than $25,000 in recovery claims for an average single family house.

4. HOW MUCH COVERAGE: Flood insurance covers building and personal contents. These limits should match at least the homeowners insurance policy for DWELLING, aka the replacement cost value of the structure, and PERSONAL CONTENTS.
